July 12 3:30 PM Impulse Control Workshop
Dealing with over-stimulation, over-arousal and impulse control.
Service Description
July 12, 2025 -- 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm The purpose of this workshop is to help students utilize techniques that will help their dogs learn to ignore other dogs, dog noises (barking, whining, etc.), exciting activities (dogs playing, retrieving, etc.) using an elevated cot. The advantage for this workshop format is so I can choreograph distractions. It's important that dogs only be exposed to what they can handle, especially if they get stressed by the other dogs' barking, whining, etc. As the dogs relax, then the distractions of the other dogs can be slowly increased. All dogs need to understand how to go to a cot (distance is not required), lay quietly on their cot (without distractions) with intermittent food reinforcement. Also bring a crate for your dog. Behaviors that occur on the cot often occur in the crate and can be addressed during the workshop. Handlers should bring small, hard biscuits or kibble (Charlee Bears are great), along with extremely high value food cut into small pieces (hot dogs, steak, chicken, cheese, etc.). Cost (pre-register by 7/10/2025) is $50.00 If there are not enough students registered by 7/10 I will need to combine the two workshops into one. My goal is to keep each workshop small (4 to 6 students max), with dogs assigned to workshops based on what each dog needs. The two workshop times are 1:30 and 3:30. Each workshop will be approximately 90 minutes long (or perhaps a little longer). If you are in the 3:30 workshop, please wait outside until the earlier dogs have left the building. For the 1:30 workshop, I would like primary participants to enroll: Ingrida, Michelle, Gwen and Christina. These dogs have issues related to exciting movement of other dogs in a performance environment. For the 3:30 workshop, I would like primary participants to enroll: Doug, Sherri, Maggie, Ingrida (2nd dog). These dogs have issues with movement of other dogs/handlers as well as barking/vocalizing by other dogs (stressing up or stressing down). If you are not listed above, but would like to attend, please send me an email at KathyLangCoaching@outlook.com so we can discuss.
